Originally from Chicago, the members of New Colony Six had moved to California where, before their discovery, they lived in the same apartment building as Paul Revere & the Raiders. 1968's Revelations was marked by a distinct shift in the group's sound. By this time, they had ditched their own Paul Revere-style colonial uniforms and began moving away from the garage rock sound of their earliest hits (including 1966's "I Confess").
