NEW VINYL ON BLUE NOTE 2008.
Trumpeter Donald Byrd's music traversed several musical styles during the course of his prolific career, beginning with hard bop (Byrd In Flight) and eventually embracing soul-jazz (Blackbyrd) and fusion (Electric Byrd). His eclectic Blue Note discography includes everything from the soulful jazz arrangement of "On The Trail" from Ferde Grofé's Grand Canyon Suite performed with Hank Mobley, Sonny Red and McCoy Tyner on Mustang (1966) to the funky Top-10 hit "(Fallin' Like) Dominoes" from Places And Spaces (1975). A masterful technician known for his lush tone, Byrd became the most important hard-bop trumpeter in jazz following the tragic car accident that ended the career of his main rival, Clifford Brown, in 1956. He eventually distinguished himself as a senior member of an elite group of stellar horn players that included Lee Morgan and Freddie Hubbard. http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Byrd
