A Long Time A Growin' is a five volume picture disc set subtitled "1961 The Year It Really Began" which pulls together some of Bob Dylan's early, rare home and live recordings captured at various folk venues, coffee houses, and radio spots, all from 1961. Vol. 1 is a 10-song collection featuring 6-songs recorded at the Gaslight Cafe, 2-songs cut at Gerdes Folk City and a pair of tracks recorded at WNYC Radio Studio on October 29, 1961. Dylan played the famous Greenwich Village, NYC cafe Gaslight a number of times, but recordings only exist from two of his many dates there while some of his first performances were documented at Gerdes Folk City, a popular music venue in NYC's West Village.
