The Complete Symphonic Recording of Les Misérables preserves on record the spectacular original Sydney cast of this musical of musicals, having impressed producer Cameron Mackintosh so greatly that he bestowed upon them the honor of recording the complete score...or rather, that was the plan, but it was scratched shortly after it was germinated. The story of Cameron Mackintosh conceiving this project upon hearing an operatic studio recording of South Pacific featuring Jose Carrerras and Kiri Te Kanawa should be familiar to most fans. From there, he would send album producer David Caddick trotting across the globe with kilometers' worth of master tape in tow, assembling tracks featuring the finest of performers from around the world.
